Historic Beacon Hill Update
Originally constructed in 1820, this Beacon Hill home had undergone multiple iterations and alterations in its first 200 years, at one point cut up into small apartments. The family’s goal was to create a unified design that established a primary residence for the owners while incorporating rental apartments. The renovation touched every level: areas like the kitchen, dining room, and family room received modern finishes and appliances, while other areas were carefully returned to their former glory—chief among them the historic curved central staircase, which was faithfully restored and extended to the top floor, where a large family gathering space opens to spectacular views of the city. Throughout, modern systems—including a newly added sprinkler system—were quietly integrated to increase comfort and safety while remaining unobtrusive, efficient, and resilient. Bringing the project to life required close coordination with neighbors and historic commissions, ensuring the work respected both the rhythms of the dense Beacon Hill streetscape and the architectural legacy it belongs to.
