Tidal Creek
Secluded, but not isolated, this modern home, its accompanying cottage/guest house, exterior pool pavilion and dock look out over salt marshes and barrier islands to the Atlantic Ocean. The structures hug the exposed and weathered ledge and are nestled in a coastal forest that offers privacy as well as a buffer from coastal winds. To build in this environment required well-planned logistics, close connection with the architects and clients, and an ability to adapt to ever-changing coastal conditions.
The interior of both the home and the cottage are comfortable and inviting and like the property itself, are largely comprised of wood and stone, as well as concrete floors at the ground level. Thoughtforms and Woodhull millwork shops shared in the creation of the custom cabinetry and coordinated with the many artisans responsible for the thoughtfully orchestrated interior flow between public and private spaces. A robust, high-performance exterior envelope was designed to provide a quiet and comfortable indoor space in any weather, and extensive use of large format windows and doors allows the home to be opened to ocean breezes on milder days. The home is kept comfortable and healthy year round with all electric systems.
